JJ Smith offer a range of standard and specialist CNC machining centres for a wide variety of production applications, with particular emphasis on the solid wood joinery, furniture and component manufacturing sectors. Below is a brief summary of the different ranges we supply. Details specifications, brochures etc are available on request.
Intorex TMC 1500 / 3000 Machining Centre.
A sophisticated, extremely versatile CNC machining centre capable of producing either turned or shaped furniture and joinery components through 5 interpolated axis. As standard the TMC is fitted with an automatic frontal hopper feed loader that delivers the blank between the headstock and tailstock where it is clamped. The machine has the unique 'patented' facility to machine eccentric pieces via an optional special offset centering device. It is equipped with a sawblade head for producing a turned section of the component, a milling head for flat machining or stock removal and a sanding head. In addition the TMC has an independent router head with a 6 position tool changer. This can be used for additional drilling, milling and shaping operations. Thanks to the sanding facility it is possible to produce a completely finished component that requires no further work or handling. Once the final machining or sanding operation is complete, the component is ejected on to a transfer exit belt. Components such a newel posts, stair spindles (with modern contemporary design), chair, table and sofa legs can all be produced on this machine.
On request the TMC can be fitted with an additional standard type small matrix type table which can have either a vacuum or mechanical clamping system. This table can be used in addition to the between ctres machining. Obviously this gives the capability to produce even a greater variety of components by just using the CNC router head.

Comec MD Series Of CNC component machining centres.
The machines are ideal for the automatic boring, mortising and milling of a wide variety of components for chairs, beds, tables, garden furniture and general joinery. The MD 'Basic' is equipped with two CNC controlled horizontal electro spindles, the MD 'Classic' has two horizontal and one vertical spindle while the MD 'Plus' has an additional vertical spindle with drilling group and full interpolation of the axis as standard. Either a 2200mm or 3000mm X axis capacity can be specified. All machines incorporate the extremely simple user friendly programming interface with electronic templates and touch screen graphic controller enabling programs to be created in only a few minutes.
All movements are on precision linear slideways with positioning speeds of up to 50 m/min. Thanks to the dual pneumatic clamping arrangements and double automatic sliding safety guards, tandem loading of each side of the worktable is possible thus maximising production output. As standard all models are equipped with a waste removal conveyor belt.
