JJ Smith can supply a number of machines that are specifically designed / suited to the production of a variety of different types of stair components. From turning equipment to produce newel post and balusters to edge laminating equipment for stair strings. A summary of the equipment available is as follows:

Comec TD1200

Comec stair spindle raking machine.

The TD1200 is an automatic hopper fed twin blade cut off saw designed for making the raked angled cut on stair spindles. It is simple to operate and can cut up to 700 spindles per hour. The machine also gives an extremely accurate, quality splinter free cut.

A compact, heavy duty hopper fed cross cut saw which is ideal for the volume production of stair wedges and / or filler pieces.

Balestrini Pico CN - programmable tenoner for stair spindle production.

A compact twin table programmable single end tenoner that is available in a special configuration. Developed to f simultaneously making the raked angled cut on a staircase spindle, while at the same time producing a location dowel or pin. When using a tenon or dowel the spindle is given a very positive accurate location on a mating slot mortise in the hand / base rail, thus eliminating the need for traditional filler pieces.

JLT Clamp Rack System.

Specifically designed for solid wood edge and face laminating, the Clamp Rack is ideal for laminating stair strings, treads, block gluings for turnings, hand rail section etc. Available in either 2.4m or 3.6m lengths (2 x 2.4m lengths can be bolted together).

Intorex FC115

Intorex FC115 newel post borer / end chamfering machine.

A dedicated machine that will automatically end chamfer and bore newel posts. It has PLC control for sequenced cycle, with all cutters totally enclosed for safe operation. In addition Intorex also manufacture a wide range of wood turning lathes and sanding machines which are suitable for producing stair spindles and newel posts. From a simple copy lathe right through to a fully CNC controlled machine.

Masterwood CNC machining centres.
Mastwerwood have specialised for many years in CNC staircase manufacturing equipment. The Project series are available with bed sizes up to 5.2m making them ideal for machining stair strings. In addition Masterwood supply their own dedicated resident 'MasterStair' design software that was specifically developed for the UK market.

Taylor rotary edge / face laminating systems.

Taylor produce a range of heavy duty rotary laminating systems that can be configured to suit customers individual production requirements. One of the most popular models sold to the staircase manufacturing sector is the 5m 6 section semi auto hydraulic machine. This is ideal for producing laminated stair strings, treads, block gluings for turnings and hand rail section etc.

Comec FC2+2 through spindle feed stop chamfer machine

A machine purposely designed for the volume production of stop chamfered stair spindles and newel posts. As standard the machine is equipped with an automatic hopper feed loading system, through feed drive system and rear take off table. Machining is carried out by 2 + 2 milling spindles (2 x counter rotating) which can be programmed through the touch screen controller for depth of cut, start point and stop point of the chamfer. Approx average
production is 7m/min.
