Frame Assembly

Squaring and nailing

The keys to automating frame assembly are:

· Accurate information from the drawing office whether manual or automatically

· Supply of the components in a way that makes it easy for the operator to handle and load them into the station

· Elimination of manual nailing as much as is possible

· Squaring of the panel, and the ability to deal with timber tolerances.  Wood is a living substance and the framemaking machine must deal with this is a consistent way.

· Easy offloading of the completed panel

J J Smith’s approach
Our frame making is based on a standard 6m capacity module with a working height of 825mm.  High enough to avoid stooping,, low enough to avoid unnecessary lifting of heavy components.  It has a fixed side and a moveable side which can be configured to give a range of sizes of 1500mm.  For example 1800mm—3200mm panel heights, or 2000mm to 3500mm.  The movement is on a heavy duty rack and pinion system to ensure the panel will be square at all times.
