Stromab Matrix FAST 500 Crosscut Installed at Dewar Brothers

Established in 1973, Dewar Brothers are Scotland's leading specialist manufacturer of timber, corrugated and foam packaging solutions. In addition to also making flight cases in house, they are Scotland's appointed supplier of SKB cases and the European distributor of Spacecase modular containers. Dewar Brothers also provide a range of bespoke packaging solutions to clients across a range of market sectors including defence, aerospace, industrial, electronics, oil and gas.

What sets Dewar Brothers apart is their design and technical expertise combined with their manufacturing, assembly and supply chain capability. They are the only commercial company in Scotland accredited to the Military Packer Approval Scheme (MPAS) which gives them the facility to design, approve and manufacture packaging to highest MOD standards. As a result it is important that they invest in the latest machinery and equipment to keep this 'edge'.

After identifying a bottle neck in production earlier this year, company director Allan Dewar was referred to JJ Smith by a long standing customer who had been using Stromab automatic crosscuts for many years. Allan called JJ Smith the same day and discussed their requirements in detail with Ian Stanley. As a result, a visit to JJ Smith's Liverpool showroom was arranged to view the 5 models of automatic crosscuts that are constantly set up for customer demonstrations.

Allan commented “I was extremely impressed with the variety of different cross cutting solutions JJ Smith had on display (Stromab, Cursal and H&M) and it was refreshing to see that they did not have a 'one make fits all' approach. We discussed in detail the different levels of equipment on offer, and also which machine could support our Solidworks 3D drawing software. It was decided a Stromab was the ideal solution and would cover all our needs both in terms of production output and software integration.” From the three Stromab’s on display – Matrix, Fast 500 and CT600, it was agreed the FAST 500 with its variable cutting geometry would give Dewar’s the maximum production capacity in terms of section size but with no compromise on speed. An order was quickly placed for a 6m capacity machine with optional length measuring camera and three weeks later the installation was completed and the saw was in full production.

“From our first conversation with Ian, to the installation technician leaving, I could not fault JJ Smith on the advice and support they offered. I am 100% certain I made the correct decision choosing them and Stromab as a machinery supplier. I am delighted with the performance of the FAST 500 which has actually exceeded our expectations". Ian Stanley adds "It has been a pleasure to work with Dewar Brothers on this project, and I am delighted that we have another satisfied customer to go with the hundreds who are already using Stromab, H&M and Cursal automatic crosscutting saws throughout the UK and Ireland".
