Talen Robotics ASC - Automatic Sanding Cobot

Automatic Sanding Cobot (ASC) – a flexible and efficient robotic solution designed to automate the sanding process in woodworking and similar industries. The ASC combines high repeatability, intelligent force control, and adaptability to various product geometries, making it an ideal solution for small to medium production batches. The ASC is developed with modularity in mind and is available in different configurations to suit specific customer needs. Options include versions with or without a linear axis, configurable vacuum zones (single or dual), and custom vacuum pad setups. For applications that do not require vacuum clamping, a version without vacuum is available, where a product specific mould will be required to ensure reliable and repeatable positioning.

The Automatic Sanding Cobot has the following characteristics:

1. The operator places the panel to be sanded onto a vacuum table.

2. The cobot determines the dimensions and position of the panel using sensors.

3. The cobot then sands the edges and surface of the panel.

The cobot is mounted upside down above the workpiece. If the dimensions of the panel fit within the cobot's working area, the top and sides will be fully sanded in one pass. If the panel is too large, the cobot will sand the parts it can reach. A key advantage of this solution is that the cobot automatically determines the size of the panel. This significantly reduces the need for operator input. The operator does not need to program the cobot - it handles that itself. If product variants need to be processed, there is the option to configure four preset buttons. Each button can be programmed for a different panel size or setup.
